Bill Brooks was born September 12, 1953 in the Appalachian foothills of rural southeasten Ohio
He has been performing since 1967, when he was 14, and has performed in front of audiences as large as 3500 to playing before just a few folks.
For many years he lived the life that he sang about, drinkin' whiskey, smokin' dope , of beer joints and living life like each day was his last. When he sought comfort and faith he found it at the bottom of a bottle. He was a dead man walkin'.. He gave up on music, on family and on December 23, 2002, he gave up on life...
But the Lord had not given up on him..."He had HIS hands on me before I knew it"..
Bill's life changed and he began to sober up.To give up things that gave unGODly pleasure. To turned his will and his life over to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He picked up his guitar and began to write again. Now, singing a new song- with a new heart.
" For many years I walked the dark road of addiction till it nearly took my life..But the Lord was not done with me. When I finally opened up my heart and asked for help...GOD ANSWERED.. I feel as if my life has just begun. I try to convey this through my music and my testimony. If I can touch one person struggling with their own challanges, then that means more to this old boy than a gold record. I don't strive to have records played all over the country or the world......."
His music covers a variety of genre's from Christian country, country/mountain gospel, traditional country and folk, all featuring Brooks' rich, baritone voice.
In 2009 he released his fourth solo cd, Hymns From The Hills.
He has also done some backup vocals on other artists cd's.
" I'm a country boy to the bone. I grew up on folk, bluegrass and gospel music. I've played with rock and country bands. Guess you can say, I'm a little bit of everything.
I am a Christian. Whether I am performing at a secular or a Christian event, my Christian teachings guide me into the music I perform and also the music that I write....".
